Why a 10 min animation on Nation Building for
Honestly, I had the dream to turn my book into animation since the 1st edition GUWLKY was published in 2000 after I graduated from NAFA. I shared with many people. Many laughed. Some shook their heads and said it was very expensive and impossible. Then I knew nothing about animation.
I went around talking to different studios and publishers to ask if they were interested. I received no positive reply. It was just a wild dream then.
Subsequently, I decided to pursue a degree in animation on scholarship. After I completed my master in animation in 2007, I started to ask for support, be it sponsorship or grant/funding in my animation project again. As you may have guessed, there were no positive replies again.
Opportunities knocked, but in a different way. I decided to write and illustrate the second edition of "Growing up with Lee Kuan Yew" in 2013. This second edition was well received and became the bestseller. This motivated me to apply for the SG50 celebration fund. This time round, I received its approval. While SG50 celebration fund supported me with 50% of my project expenditure, I am going to raise the remaining 50% of the remaining project expenditure.
